Latest Report on Kids in Care

BC's Child and Youth Representative has released her latest report into critical injuries and deaths among children and youth in care.  Since February, 119 critical injuries and 41 deaths have been reported, and reviews are underway in the case of 71 injuries and 14 deaths.

Children with FASD More Likely to End up in Prison

"Research in Canada and the USA shows that children with FASD are 19 times more likely to end up in prison than those who are not affected.  About 35% of young people with FASD end up in the criminal justice system, and over half have been in trouble with the law.  For more:

Children' who watch more TV between the ages of two and four may increase their risk of having a large waist size and weaker muscular fitness by the end of grade 4. Quebec research suggests.

UN Developing a System-Wide Action Plan on Youth

The Plan will affect the way the UN system will work with and for youth in the coming years.  It will focus on five priority areas: employment, entrepreneurship, education (including education on sexual and reproductive health), citizen and protection of rights, and political inclusion.  The UN is seeking input from youth and those working with youth.  Short questionnaire here.

Eleven Children Died While in Province's Care
