Aboriginal Kids at Great Risk of Injury, Death

A new report by the Canadian Paediatric Society says aboriginal children are at a much greater risk of becoming seriously injured or killed than other kids in Canada.  "Indigenous children are dying at a disproportionate rate...and a lot of these injuries are preventable."  University of Toronto researcher Anna Banerji said.

Manitoba Inquiry Into Toddlers Death Grinds to a Halt

Manitoba's Court of Appeal has halted an inquiry into the death of a five year old girl so that it can hear arguments over whether witness interviews should be fully disclosed.  The inquiry into the death of Phoenix Sinclair, who was beaten to death in 2005 by her mother and the mother's boyfriend, months after child welfare workers removed her from a foster home and gave her back to her family, is examining how yet another child fell through the cracks in the system.
