National Banks's One for Youth Program to Give $1M to Canadian Youth in 2013
Organizations can receive up to $25,000 through this initiative, which focuses on supporting the well-being, health and education needs of Canadian youth across the country. Throughout 2013, National Bank will grant a total of $1 Million to selected youth programs.

Youth Policies Across the Globe: Who's Got What
Youthpolicy.org has released a listing of all countries that have a national youth policy and it makes for some interesting reading. A total of 50% of the 198 countries examined have a current youth policy, and a further 28% are in the process of revising their youth policy or developing their first national youth policy. Did you know that China does not have a national youth policy, whereas Yemen has a 2006-15 youth strategy.

How Sweet is This?
This past week, New Zealand became the thirteenth country to legalize gay marriage after the Parliament voted 77 to 44 on an amendment to their 1955 marriage laws. Upon the formal announcement, many people in the crowd as well as a fe lawmakers spontaneously burst into singing the traditional Māori love song "Pokarekare Ana."... and it's beautiful music.

Most Canadian teenagers believe their glass is half full according to a new national survey commissioned by the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada. (BBBBSC) and MasterCard Canada. In fact, a majority of Canadian teenagers (57%) believe their quality of life as adults will surpass their parents.
Is It Time to Chuck Welfare?
Canada's kids placed a mediocre 17th in overall well-being in a recent United Nations poll. Canada's in the bottom third in 'relative child poverty"; there are too many teens spinning their wheels by not being in school, training or employment; and we're 27th (ahead of only Latvia an Romania) in health and safety, including vaccination levels and rates of infant and child mortality.

A new report by Saskatchewan's children's advocate says while progress is being made in some areas there's a concern about the increasing number of young people entering correctional facilities. The report discusses the increasing rate of young offenders in Saskatchewan (nine more youth were taking into custody per day in 2012 compared to 2011)

The Language of Love...Written and Performed by a 17 Year Old
If you watch only one video this week/month then let it be The Language of Love, about 17 year old Charlie who struggles to find the words to be true to himself...and his best friend. It's a wry, delicate take on first love and awakening sexuality from a young man's perspective. The video is written and performed by the brilliant Kim Ho.

When law student Raphaëlle Ferland goes to one of her speaking engagements, she's often the only presenter without a Ph.D. She's also the only one who has lived on the streets. Ferland, 23, had a nomadic childhood, attending 14 different schools before she "stopped counting." by 16, she was homeless, making it all the more impressive that she graduated at the top of her class and was accepted into law school. Read all profiles.

Canada ranked very low in the category of health and safety, ahead of only Latvia and Romania. According to UNICEF, the category looked at such things as infant mortality, low birth weight, national immunization and overall child and youth mortality.

13-year-old Rosie takes viewers into her world to explain what it's like to grow up with autism. Rosie introduces other children who have the condition. Tony, who gets totally obsessed with things but struggles to make friends. Ben, who has suffered from terrible bullying, and Rosie's own little brother Lenny, who turns the house upside-down daily to try and make sense of things.
